Last week was another week in which U.S. hide sellers reported booking a good volume of sales. We expect that some of these sales are resales or double selling of product that suppliers have on the books. These types of sales are the result of delayed L/C openings from buyers or in some cases contract cancellations. Prices were off again but those reduced prices also appear to have brought more buyers as well as new buyers into the U.S. market. Yes, the problems hide suppliers are having … [Read more...] about The Hide Market Report – July 13, 2015

The Hide Market Report – July 6, 2015
The U.S. Hide Market remained confusing last week. The feeling was that a number of hides were traded during a holiday shortened week in the United States, where we celebrated our Independence Day. It was very difficult to come up with a number that one could call the market price for any particular hide selection, be it Heavy Native Steer or Heavy Texas Steer, etc. The reason for the confusion was the fact that some tanners in China and Korea were insisting on suppliers selling them hides … [Read more...] about The Hide Market Report – July 6, 2015

The Hide Market Report – June 29, 2015
Things did not go smoothly in the U.S. Hide Market last week. It will be interesting to see the USDA Export Sales report this coming Thursday for hides and wet blue sales contracted last week. There seemed to be wide price ranges for a good number of sales reported or rumored sold. Sellers for the most part were more concerned with shipping product sold, than they were interested in new sales. There were many cases in which shipping outstanding contracts and new sales were closely … [Read more...] about The Hide Market Report – June 29, 2015

The Hide Market Report – June 22, 2015
There was enough confusion in the hide market last week to last all month. Selling prices for U.S. Steer hides were all over the block. There were obviously a couple of the Big Packers who felt they needed for some reason or another to get some hides sold. There were also some dealers who took these packers moves and ran with it, selling into the market. There was one sale in particular on Butt Branded Steer hides, reported on Wednesday, that was a full $10.00 plus below what was considered … [Read more...] about The Hide Market Report – June 22, 2015

The Hide Market Report – June 15, 2015
Steer hide prices came under pressure last week as the lack of Steer hide sales over the last month and the shipment delays requested by the Chinese tanners finally caught up with the market. China’s problems including environmental issues, and reduced leather orders from Chinese leather goods manufacturers who produce for the Chinese domestic market, continued the decline in drop split values and have negatively affected a large number of the Chinese tanners. All these factors have resulted … [Read more...] about The Hide Market Report – June 15, 2015
